Statement of Mission

A Door of Hope Ministries, based on Hosea 2:15, was formed to address the issues of hurting people. The ministry's mission is to facilitate healing by providing education and counseling to the hurting.

And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for A Door of Hope and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth,
and as in the day when she came up
out of the land of Egypt. - Hosea 2:15

The team of A Door of Hope Ministries recognizes the increased need for ministry to the hurting hearts of Christians. This need is, in a large degree, going unmet. When a person is hurting, depressed, angry, confused, or broken they need a place where they can find freedom to disclose, unconditional acceptance, understanding, truth, sound biblical counsel, and prayer. The purpose of the ministry is to provide for these spiritual, physical, and emotional needs.

A Door of Hope Ministries operates Hope's House and Haven of Hope, two full time residential counseling facilities for adult women and teen girls who need education, support, and counseling as they journey toward spiritual and emotional wholeness.

Our vision is to reach the world with the message of God's healing power.

Our History
In 1994, Rena Majors, RN, formed A Door of Hope Ministries as a result of her personal recovery experience. She worked with her friends and recovery partners, presenting lectures and retreats around the country. Rena dreamed of one day providing a home where women could begin their healing journey in an atmosphere of trust and support. In April 1999, the organization opened a full time residential counseling facility in rural Portland,Tennessee called Hope’s House. The program at Hope’s House was designed to minister to the needs of adult women with a four-week residential biblical counseling program.

Many times mothers called on Hope’s House to help their teenage daughters whose hearts had been broken and were acting out that brokenness in various ways. The ministry team made several attempts to impact the lives of young women 15-18. It was quickly evident that these women needed more than 4 weeks at Hope’s House. The ministry team saw the initial changes in these young women because of the power of the gospel but they needed time to incorporate the changes into their lives. Thus, began the dream for a long term facility for young women whose hearts are broken, who are acting out that brokenness but who want to receive the healing power of God. In April 2006, Haven of Hope will open its doors to provide a 12-18 month therapeutic program for young women ages 15-18.

A Door of Hope Ministires' residential facilities are located in a quiet rural community in Portland, Tennessee 40 miles north of Nashville and 30 miles south of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Strategically placed, these ministry houses are in an area that provides the residents with the quiet and peaceful atmosphere conducive to their recovery process.

The residences used for Hope's House and Haven of Hope are more than 70 years old. Both, recently renovated, these two-level homes provide guests with all the modern comforts of home. The guests sleep in two rooms upstairs and live and work as a community. There is minimal stimulation of city life. These quiet facilities sit in the middle of three fields and are bordered by a large farm. A walk down the country roads provides an atmosphere for one to reflect and enjoy the benefits of country living.
